There will be an Ottawa police presence at St. Mark High School on Monday morning after the Ottawa Catholic School Board became aware of a threat being made.

The threat came in response to social media posts from a St. Mark staff member about the recent killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk died after being shot in the neck Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University.

“Recently, social media posts connected to one of our staff members have been circulating online,” read a letter to St. Mark students’ families from principal Alison Strucchelli. The OCSB shared the letter with the Ottawa Citizen on Sunday.

“These posts were made outside of school hours, on a personal account, and do not represent the values or mission of St. Mark Catholic High School or the Ottawa Catholic School Board. The Board takes this situation seriously and is looking into it expeditiously and carefully.”

The letter stated that the Ottawa Police Service was contacted immediately after the school learned of the threat during the weekend, and added that police are investigating.

The letter stated that police would be at the school Monday morning, but police did not release any information about the situation when contacted Sunday evening.
