A 39-year-old Ottawa teacher was charged with child sexual abuse and exploitation material offences on Thursday.
The Ottawa Police Service said Stephen Patrick Ruth, 39, was arrested and charged following the search of a residence in the city’s east end.
He appeared in court on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The Jan. 8 police news release added that Ruth was alleged to have used the online usernames STEVERUTH, mrruthio and mrsruthio86.
The investigation was continuing, police said. Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5660. Tips may also be sent electronically to [email protected].
