A person missed the birth of their child after teens allegedly stole a vehicle left running outside a daycare in Hamilton.
Hamilton police say on Jan. 14, the victim left their Honda CR-V running unattended as they picked up their child from daycare.
Teens nearby allegedly stole the vehicle and fled the area. The victim’s cellphone and other personal belongings were in the vehicle when it was taken.
Just before the theft of the vehicle, the victim’s spouse had been admitted to hospital. After not being able to get in touch with their spouse for hours, the hospitalized spouse contacted a neighbour, asking to locate their spouse, the victim of the car theft.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, they discovered their spouse had undergone surgery and their baby had been delivered.
A week later on Jan. 21, police found the vehicle with six youths inside, two of them in the trunk. All the teens were arrested.
Another youth was arrested at a nearby residence. Some of those arrested were also allegedly connected to a series of vehicle thefts from recreation centres in September 2024.

A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, both from Hamilton, are facing a number of charges including vehicle theft while seven other youths, two girls and five boys, have been charged with occupant of motor vehicle without consent.
