Police fear that a 53-year-old man, who jumped into
the Ottawa River
to save a woman in distress, may have drowned.
MRC des Collines
police said the man jumped off a pontoon in an attempt to rescue the woman near Mohr Island on Sunday at around 5:30 p.m.
The man was not wearing a life jacket and went underwater, according to police, who added that nearby boaters and firefighters launched an intensive search.
A marine unit from the
Ottawa Police Service
also searched the area overnight.
MRC des Collines police said the man is still missing and that the search would continue Monday.
