A man and a woman face a raft of charges after police used a spike belt to stop a fleeing car on rural roads south of Ottawa.
The incident began at about 2 a.m., Thursday when Grenville detachment OPP officers attempted to stop a car for an unspecified traffic violation on County Road 2 in Cardinal.
The vehicle fled at high speed and officers did not pursue for safety reasons.
The car was spotted a short time later by Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP officers in the town of Morrisburg.
Officers followed the vehicle to the Iroquois area, where Grenville OPP officers deployed the spike belt. There were no injuries, although an OPP cruiser was struck by the fleeing vehicle.
Officers seized a firearm and an imitation firearm, as well as cannabis and other substances and suspected stolen property.
A 39-year-old North Grenville man and a 42-year-old Elizabethtown woman are to appear in court for a bail hearing.
Police said the investigation is continuing and “additional charges are pending.”
