Prince Harry wants Canada to know he’s really, really sorry — and that he’s a Blue Jays fan through and through.
“I want to apologize to Canada,” the British royal said Thursday in Toronto, while wearing a Blue Jays hat.
The offence in question? Wearing a Dodgers hat while watching Game 4 of the World Series in Los Angeles with his wife, Meghan Markle, despite the fact that Harry is in line for the throne of Canada — and that he lived in British Columbia for several months after he and Markle left their duties as working royals in 2020.
“I was under duress,” Harry told CTV News in an interview on Thursday, during his second day of his Toronto visit. “There wasn’t much choice.”
That’s because, the prince claims, he was there as a guest of the Dodgers’ owner Mark Walter. Wearing the team’s merch was “the polite thing to do.”
He promised that he’ll wear the Jays hat from now on to avoid any further “mistakes.”
He added self-deprecatingly, “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top and you’re sitting on the front plate, you take all the help you can get.”
He swears, however, that “game 5, game 6, game 7, I was Blue Jays throughout.”
Harry said his admission will make it “pretty hard” to return to Los Angeles. He and Markle live in nearby Montecito.
“I’m devastated the Blue Jays lost,” he concluded. “But go Jays.”
Prince Harry has been in Toronto for two days of events ahead of Remembrance Day. He met with Canadian Army Reserve members and visited Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
