Next week, Prince William is set to give a rare — and based on the teaser, quite vulnerable — television interview. Even more unusual? It’s Canada’s very own Eugene Levy who’s got the royal exclusive.
On Friday, October 3 the Prince of Wales will be on the third season of Levy’s Apple TV+ travel show, “The Reluctant Traveler.”
The episode, titled “Living the Royal Life In The UK,” opens with the Canadian actor and comedian receiving an invitation to visit Windsor Castle. His host is none other than the heir to the British throne, who jokes “We provide this service for everyone. We do personalized tours everywhere.”
Because this is Levy — and Prince William, for that matter, noted for his dry humour — the overall tone is larky and light. When asked about what he does in free time, for example, the 43-year-old jokingly says, “Sleep. When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”
Things seem to get a bit more serious, however, when they’re chatting over pints at a pub later in the episode. It’s just the teaser, so we don’t have context for the question, but William does seem to open up to Levy about how he’s coped with the double-whammy of his father and wife being diagnosed with cancer within weeks of each other last year.
“I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had,” he says in the trailer for the episode. “You know, life is sent to test us and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
It’s not entirely clear why Prince William is on this particular show at this particular time — it may make more sense when the full episode airs next week — but it’s not the first time the future king of England has worked with Apple. A few years ago, he recorded an episode of “Time To Walk” for Apple Fitness+, where he chatted about everything from the song he used to sing in the car with his mother, Diana, to how being a rescue helicopter pilot impacted his mental health, all while hiking around the Norfolk countryside.
