Complaints from ByWard Market residents and businesses about drug dealing in the community have led to the arrest of a man in his 40s who is accused of dealing crack in the neighbourhood.
In a news release, the Ottawa Police Service said it began receiving complaints from a business last November and December about alleged drug dealing on their property.
On Jan. 9, police set up surveillance in the area, where a man was allegedly observed selling drugs.
The man in his 40s was arrested for “
possession of a Schedule I substance
for the purpose of trafficking.”
“During a search, crack cocaine packaged for sale was found inside the man’s clothing, along with Canadian currency,” police said in the release.
“Based on the observations and evidence recovered, the man was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000.”
