NORTH VANCOUVER – Police say an explosive device damaged the front door of British Columbia infrastructure minister Bowinn Ma’s office, and they’re investigating whether it was linked to an earlier blast nearby.
Cpl. Mansoor Sahak with North Vancouver RCMP says the 4:15 a.m. blast at Ma’s office breached the door and damaged the door frame.
Scorch marks were visible on the door at the office where there was a heavy police presence.
Sahak says a previous explosion had earlier been heard in the nearby 100 block of West 1st Avenue and police are looking into whether the blasts were connected.
Premier David Eby says police told him a device was “deliberately” set at Ma’s office.
He says that although the motive is not clear, the incident is profoundly concerning and strikes at the heart of how elected officials perform their duties.
