U.S. Rep. Al Green was kicked out of President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday night after disputing Trump’s claim of a mandate from his election victory.
Trump began his address by bragging about his election win, which he claimed was a landslide, giving him a mandate from the people to force his agenda on America through a boatload of executive orders. As Republicans stood up and cheered, Green also stood in defiance, shaking his cane in the air at President Trump during the opening minutes of his speech.
GOP lawmakers booed Green, which escalated the chaos on the House floor, momentarily pausing Trump’s speech. House Speaker Mike Johnson then stepped in and read the house rules over the microphone at his podium.

“Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,” Johnson said to the house but directed towards Green.
Green didn’t relent and continued to defy orders, refusing to sit down. Johnson then called for the House sergeant at arms to remove Green from the chamber.
Republicans cheered in uproar, some even chanting, “Nah nah nah nah, goodbye,” as he was escorted out of the room.
Green spoke to the press after he was removed and told the cameras he “was making it clear to the president he had no mandate to cut medicaid.”
Although Green was the only person to get kicked out of the address, he wasn’t the only person to show defiance throughout the night.
Democrats also held up black signs that read “SAVE MEDICAID,” “ PROTECT VETERANS,” and “MUSK STEALS.” Other democrats wore stickers that accused Elon Musk of “stealing Social Security.”

Members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus also wore pink in protest of Trump and his policies.
The best sign of the night went to Rep. Rashida Tlalib, who held up a whiteboard that read “THAT’S A LIE.”
Meanwhile, the protests didn’t stop Trump from spending the majority of his address bragging about his executive orders, DOGE and how much he’s a better president than former President Biden. Republicans stood and clapped every three or four sentences and laughed at all his jokes like it was comedy hour.

Trump’s guests were mostly tied to his executive orders, as he used them to continue to fearmonger the country by scapegoating immigrants and other marginalized communities.
When it came time to talk about the economy and the prices of goods, there just wasn’t much substance.
