REGINA – A Saskatchewan Opposition NDP emergency motion to suspend the provincial 15-cents-a-litre gas tax has failed in the legislature.
NDP Leader Carla Beck says the decision of the governing Saskatchewan Party to block the motion shows Premier Scott Moe is out of touch with cost-of-living pressures facing residents.
She says pausing the gas tax would have saved families hundreds of dollars at a time when they’re buying Christmas presents.
Moe says there are other ways to save people money, and that pausing the gas tax would only be temporary.
His government plans to introduce legislation next week that would provide personal income tax relief.
He says he hopes the legislation passes during the current legislature sitting so residents can start seeing savings early next year.
