MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Saskatchewan Party Leader Scott Moe says he would welcome a discussion with federal partners on tackling homelessness if re-elected as premier on Monday.
Federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser has said he wrote to all provinces last month about working together to fund supports for those experiencing homelessness but hadn’t heard back formally from Saskatchewan.
A Saskatchewan Party spokesman says the provincial government didn’t formally respond because it felt it was inappropriate to do so given the proximity of the election campaign.
Moe says he welcomes the funding and sitting down with the federal government to discuss solutions.
His party has said it would continue with its homelessness plan announced last year, which includes funding 155 new supportive housing spaces and just over 150 emergency shelter spaces.
In its platform, the party has said its government has invested more than $92 million since 2007 to develop nearly 1,000 units for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
