REGINA – Saskatchewan’s new child-care deal will see Ottawa spend $1.6 billion over five years to support $10-a-day care.
The province and Ottawa signed the deal today after Premier Scott Moe announced earlier this week it was coming.
The federal government says the funding arrangement includes an annual three per cent increase to help ensure the agreement is sustainable over its duration.
Children who turn six while still in care will also be eligible for $10-a-day care for the remainder of their school year.
Federal Families Minister Patty Hajdu says Ottawa will work to expand child care spaces so more families can plan for their futures.
Some child care operators in Saskatchewan have said they want a deal that provides emergency funding to help keep their businesses open.
