A 76-year-old driver has been charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene after a 17-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Elgin on Wednesday.
The student had minor injuries from the Nov. 18 collision, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release on Thursday.
The collision occurred just before 11 a.m. on Main Street in Elgin, which is about 120 kilometres southwest of Ottawa. The youth was a student at a nearby school, police said.
Although the vehicle was driven away from the scene of the collision, officers from the OPP’s Leeds detachment located it in the area.
The driver was released from custody and was scheduled to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Brockville at a later date, police said.
