Now that the international fashion weeks are truly back in full swing, it’s been delightful to see what industry insiders and style enthusiasts are wearing to the shows — or, in some cases, just to stand outside them and experience the creative spectacle in progress.

Sure, many celebrities and top influencers come dressed by brands and assisted by a full glam team, but most fashion week attendees are simply wearing their best looks for the season. The sartorial mix is fun to see, and is often equal parts aspirational and inspirational.

Ahead, six of the top street style trends we spotted over the recent fashion weeks.

Sheer by day

Sheer separates may be trending for Spring 2025, but the style set is already leaning into this trend. There were sheer dresses worn under trenches, see-through raincoats with lingerie and more, but many showgoers opted for a sheer pencil skirt worn over high-waisted briefs or with a longer shirt or jacket.

Rich reds

Black-on-black is a perennial fashion-crowd favourite, but this fall, fashion week attendees also embraced deep shades of red like burgundy and oxblood. Worn head-to-toe and in layers of mixed textures, this autumnal range is universally flattering and also easier to style with neutral-coloured accessories than brighter reds.

More-is-more trinkets

Bag charms, key chains and other trinkets, both novelty and designer, have been trending throughout the year, and were seen all over street style photography in September. They can be a fun and affordable way to update your go-to handbag or backpack this season. Anything goes here; think friendship bracelets, Jellycat stuffies and even award ribbons — and more is more.

Goners for gloves

Driving gloves and other short leather and suede gloves were a popular accessory outside the shows, seen in both coordinating and contrasting colours. Especially for those tricky transitional-weather days, gloves can be a stylish way to add warmth and cosiness to a look ahead of bringing out your heavy coats.

Denim and cropped jacket combos

High-rise, wide-leg jeans were seen on the runways during the recent fashion weeks in decidedly dressed-up styles. Outside, showgoers were seen wearing similarly high-waisted denim, but with cropped jackets — printed, leather or otherwise. A fitted jacket works best with something wide-leg, while boxier styles will complement more form-fitting bottoms.

Monogrammed manes

At the Fidan Novruzova presentation at Paris Fashion Week, several mannequins sported cut-out letters all over their hair, which was reminiscent of the all-over ribbons at Sandy Liang a few seasons ago. Fashion week attendees showed how the trend can work for the streets, wearing monogram-style hair embellishments and clips.
