Simu Liu is getting hitched.
On Monday, the Chinese-Canadian actor announced his engagement to his girlfriend, music executive Allison Hsu, with an Instagram post featuring photos of the happy couple on vacation in Paris.
“From weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between, I choose you forever and always,” Liu wrote in the post’s caption.
“Us forever,” Hsu shared on a separate Instagram post.
Liu, 36, was born in Harbin, China, and moved to Ontario as a child. He first rose to prominence for his role as Jung Kim in the popular Canadian television sitcom ”Kim’s Convenience.” In recent years, Liu is best known for his role in ”Barbie” and for portraying the superhero Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2022, he landed on Time magazine’s list of most 100 influential people.
Hsu, 28, hails from Los Angeles, and works as a digital marketing director at Interscope Records. In 2022, she landed on Forbes magazine’s list of 30 Under 30 for music, which noted that Hsu worked with A-list stars like Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and Finneas.
Liu and Hsu officially started dating in 2022. In December of that year, Liu opened up to People magazine about the relationship: “She’s a badass, she’s a fighter, and she’s very, very passionate about all things in life, her work, her job, and her other things,” he said about Hsu. “And that’s a language that I speak very well, and I am happy to see where it goes.”
Last August, Liu wished Hsu a happy birthday on Instagram, where he described his relationship with her as “just like this benson boone song… it’s loud as hell and there’s so much going on but dammit when we hit those high notes it’s just magic.”
News of the engagement sparked response from actors and other public figures. “AHHHHHHH HOW AMAZING! Sending love to you both,” actor Florence Pugh posted on Instagram. Olivia Munn, Michelle Kwan and Ken Jeong also chimed in to congratulate the couple.
