The last 12 months have been an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. Skillz has brought back his popular year end recap with the “2024 Rap Up.”
As spotted on Hip Hop N More Richmond, VA native has resurrected his year in review series. Back in 2002 the “B-Boy Document 99” MC reviewed all the happenings in the culture and beyond over Common’s “Come Close” instrumental. For the next two decades he treated us to yearly installments that became synonymous with the last week in December. Eventually Uncle Murda adopted (read: stole) the idea which left Skillz with a bitter taste leading him to drop the tradition in 2021.
Thankfully he is back with a surprise edition with an accompanying video treatment. From the opener Skillz let us know that he was paying attention to all of the year’s biggest moments. “I’ve been gone for a minute now. I’m back with the Rap Up / It was crazy ass yesterday so you know I’m about to act up / And it starts right now / It’s about to go down/ Usher, the homie went crazy on that Super Bowl stage / Hey, and every song was bop/then ya’ll came for Jermaine in his lollypop socks” he raps.
