Environment Canada is warning capital area residents that heavy snowfall is in the forecast.
In a special weather statement, the agency says 10-15 cm is expected to accumulate, beginning Saturday evening.
Peak snowfall rates of two to four cm per hour could cause reduced visibility at times in heavy snow.
“The snow will diminish in intensity overnight,” Environment Canada says.
Roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Allow extra time for travel.
The snowfall will be pushed by winds gusting to 40 km/h. The low is expected to be about -1 C, which could translate into freezing rain after midnight in some areas.
The outlook for Sunday is cloudy, with a 70 per cent chance of flurries in the morning and afternoon. Winds are expected to hit 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h. The temperature should reach a high of 1 C, with the wind chill making it feel like -10 in the afternoon.
There’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries Sunday night with low temperatures of around -13 C.
Monday’s outlook is a mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of snow. The temperature should reach a high of -4 C and a low of -5 C.
