A day after a new round of images of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and singer Katy Perry went viral, his ex-wife has taken to social media to share her thoughts on the nature of love.
“Nothing we love was ever meant to be kept,” said Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in an over minute-long video posted to Instagram. “The people, the places, even the moments that once felt infinite.”
This comes after the Daily Mail published pictures of her ex-husband and Perry being spotted sharing a kiss on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Despite months of ongoing rumours, neither Trudeau or Perry have commented publicly about their relationship. Perry is currently on tour in the United Kingdom.
Grégoire and Trudeau announced their separation in 2023 after an 18-year long relationship and three children. He stepped down as prime minister in March.
“Take a breath with me, place one hand on your chest, just for a couple of seconds,” Sophie Grégoire asks viewers in her video. “Remember someone or something you’ve had to release. Feel how it still lives inside of you. That is love’s endurance, that is what carries us forward.”
Grégoire did not mention her ex-husband by name or make references to her marriage in the video.
She also talked about the passing of her father, Jean, and how grief also comes with grace. Back in June, Grégoire posted a Father’s Day video dedicated to him and Trudeau.
“To hold on feels safer than to let go,” she said. “Love was never about possession, it was about presence.”
Rumours of Trudeau and Perry began in July after TMZ obtained footage of the two at dinner in Montreal during the pop star’s tour in Canada. Perry was previously engaged to actor Orlando Bloom. They have one child together.
