TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index edged lower in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the telecom sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 8.70 points at 23,559.95.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 107.05 points at 41,500.83. The S&P 500 index was down 7.68 points at 5,618.34, while the Nasdaq composite was down 120.72 points at 17,563.26.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.53 cents US compared with 73.61 cents US on Friday.
The October crude oil contract was up US$1.30 at US$69.95 per barrel and the October natural gas contract was up three cents at US$2.34 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was down US$3.10 at US$2,607.60 an ounce and the December copper contract was up five cents at US$4.29 a pound.
