TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index fell in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the industrial and telecommunication sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 36.38 points at 33,056.94.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 322.32 points at 49,090.08. The S&P 500 index was up 37.98 points at 6,988.21, while the Nasdaq composite was up 246.12 points at 23,847.48.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.51 cents US compared with 72.98 cents US on Monday.
The March crude oil contract was up US$1.07 at US$61.70 per barrel.
The February gold contract was up US$4.70 at US$5,087.20 an ounce.
