TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index fell more than 250 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the technology sector, while U.S. stock markets also moved lower.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 276.31 points at 29,592.28.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 261.64 points at 46,650.66. The S&P 500 index was down 66.65 points at 6,653.67, while the Nasdaq composite was down 390.01 points at 22,663.98.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.04 cents US compared with 70.84 cents US on Thursday.
The December crude oil contract was up 18 cents US at US$59.61 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$13.30 at US$4,004.30 an ounce.
