TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was lower in late-morning trading on Wednesday amid broad-based losses, while U.S. markets also moved lower.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 82.69 points at 31,784.42.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 173.38 points at 48,193.68. The S&P 500 index was down 25.01 points at 6,871.87, while the Nasdaq composite was down 83.15 points at 23,335.93.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.92 cents US compared with 73.03 cents US on Tuesday.
The February crude oil contract was down seven cents US at US$57.88 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$35.30 at US$4,350.90 an ounce.
