TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index crept higher in late-morning trading, helped by gains in the energy sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 18.05 points at 33,046.97.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 34.19 points at 49,408.25. The S&P 500 index was up 3.50 points at 6,947.97, while the Nasdaq composite was up 6.00 points at 23,536.02.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.90 cents US compared with 71.95 cents US on Thursday.
The March crude oil contract was up 60 cents US at US$59.68 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$33.80 at US$4,589.90 an ounce.
