TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index edged lower, weighed down by losses in the energy sector as the price of oil fell, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 1.76 points at 31,525.63.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 18.49 points at 48,439.56. The S&P 500 index was up 5.86 points at 6,833.27, while the Nasdaq composite was down 9.80 points at 23,185.37.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.65 cents US compared with 72.63 cents US on Friday.
The January crude oil contract was down 70 cents US at US$56.74 per barrel.
The February gold contract was up US$10.10 at US$4,338.40 an ounce.
