TORONTO – Gains in base metal stocks lifted Canada’s main stock index in late-morning trading on Tuesday, while U.S. markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 13.36 points at 27,330.36.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 17.69 points at 44,340.76. The S&P 500 index was down 9.11 points at 6,296.49, while the Nasdaq composite was down 106.99 points at 20,867.19.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.37 cents US compared with 73.03 cents US on Monday.
The September crude oil contract was down 82 cents US at US$65.13 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$36.40 at US$3,442.80 an ounce.
