TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index fell in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the telecom, utility and energy sectors, while U.S. stock markets also moved lower.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 43.52 points at 31,267.89.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 139.55 points at 47,815.44. The S&P 500 index was down 18.73 points at 6,851.67, while the Nasdaq composite was down 34.07 points at 23,544.06.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.25 cents US compared with 72.15 cents US on Friday.
The January crude oil contract was down 85 cents US at US$59.23 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$33.60 at US$4,209.40 an ounce.
