TORONTO – The S&P/TSX composite index was down at the start of the shortened trading day on Christmas Eve, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 109.75 points at 31,948.98.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 107.65 points at 48,550.06. The S&P 500 index was up 5.53 points at 6,915.32, while the Nasdaq composite was down 10.68 points at 23,551.16.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.16 cents US, compared with 72.97 cents US on Tuesday.
The February crude oil contract was up 23 cents US at US$58.61 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$10.30 at US$4,495.40 an ounce.
