TORONTO – Losses in the financial, industrial and telecom sectors pushed Canada’s main stock index lower in late-morning trading on Monday, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 19.13 points at 24,580.35.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 214.49 points at 42,625.77. The S&P 500 index was down 1.76 points at 5,929.09, while the Nasdaq composite was up 65.54 points at 19,638.14.
The Canadian dollar traded for 69.36 cents US compared with 69.61 cents US on Friday.
The February crude oil contract was down 63 cents at US$68.83 per barrel and the February natural gas contract was down seven cents at US$3.40 per mmBTU.
The February gold contract was down US$20.10 at US$2,625.00 an ounce and the March copper contract was down two cents at US$4.02 a pound.
