TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading helped by strength in the energy and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 37.19 points at 25,427.87.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 236.02 points at 44,106.37. The S&P 500 index was up 8.06 points at 5,956.77, while the Nasdaq composite was down 26.67 points at 18,945.75.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.49 cents US compared with 71.63 cents US on Thursday.
The January crude oil contract was up 67 cents at US$70.77 per barrel and the January natural gas contract was down 22 cents at US$3.26 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up US$31.60 at US$2,706.50 an ounce and the December copper contract was down four cents at US$4.09 a pound.
