TORONTO – Strength in the technology sector helped Canada’s main stock index edge higher in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also posted gains.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 18.17 points at 30,197.15.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 81.48 points at 47,603.60. The S&P 500 index was up 42.43 points at 6,864.77, while the Nasdaq composite was up 279.15 points at 23,860.29.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.39 cents US compared with 71.49 cents US on Thursday.
The December crude oil contract was up 42 cents US at US$60.99 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$9.00 at US$4,024.90 an ounce.
