TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 100 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the base metal, financial and technology sectors, while U.S. stocks also marched higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 134.96 points at 34,105.34.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 176.73 points at 49,351.23. The S&P 500 index was up 37.98 points at 6,928.05, while the Nasdaq composite was up 214.34 points at 23,078.02.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.11 cents US compared with 72.95 cents US on Tuesday.
The April crude oil contract was down 35 cents US at US$65.28 per barrel.
The April gold contract was up US$33.90 at US$5,210.20 an ounce.
