TORONTO – Strength in the technology and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index rise more than 300 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 301.20 points at 30,213.39.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 22.58 points at 46,964.52. The S&P 500 index was up 48.16 points at 6,776.96, while the Nasdaq composite was up 318.31 points at 23,322.85.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.28 cents US compared with 71.11 cents US on Friday.
The December crude oil contract was down 22 cents US at US$59.53 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$88.40 at US$4,098.20 an ounce.
