TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up nearly 150 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the industrial and financial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 147.68 points at 33,064.15.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 383.64 points at 49,533.27. The S&P 500 index was up 48.41 points at 6,975.01, while the Nasdaq composite was up 226.24 points at 23,697.99.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.98 cents US compared with 72.06 cents US on Wednesday.
The March crude oil contract was down US$2.65 at US$59.23 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$15.80 at US$4,619.90 an ounce.
