TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was trading nearly 40 points higher late-morning Friday, helped by gains in energy stocks, while U.S. markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 37.41 points at 31,750.17.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 106.65 at 48,169.94. The S&P 500 index was down 14.31 points at 6,831.19, while the Nasdaq composite was down 83.04 points at 23,158.95.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.82 cents US compared with 72.96 cents US on Wednesday.
The February crude oil contract was down 61 cents US at US$56.81.
The February gold contract was up US$7.30 at US$4,348.40.
