Stittsville ward Coun.
Glen Gower will not be seeking re-election
this fall.
In a video posted on Saturday morning, Gower said he promised to only serve two terms when he first ran eight years ago, and he intended to keep that promise.
“I still believe change and renewal is good. We always need new voices and new experience around the council table,” Gower said.
“I don’t have something lined up. I’d like to find something in the public or non-profit sector that is hopefully aligned to the work I’ve been doing at city hall around transportation, housing, community building, health care.
“I thought it was important to get the word out early because I know there are people in the community who have probably thought about running.”
With only nine months left in his term, Gower said he and his team will be focused on several key items like the proposed Kanata-Stittsville Primary Care Health Hub and some parks and road safety projects.
“I will keep working with my team and with residents and with community groups. We’re going to keep working to make Stittsville a better place to live,” he said.
Gower was first elected as councillor for the Stittsville ward in 2018 and
was re-elected in 2022
. He currently chairs the transit committee and is the vice-chair of the housing and planning committee.
Ottawa’s
next municipal election
will be held on Oct. 26 this year.
