After two days of packed events, Ottawa Tamarack Race Weekend came to a close on Sunday afternoon.
Runners lined up for a celebratory beer (or beers) near the Laurier Avenue West entrance. Some were hugging family members, relatives and spouses emotionally for finishing the huge accomplishment.
Over 36,000 people were registered across six different events this past weekend, which included the 2K, 5K, 10K and kids’ race events on Saturday and the half-marathon and marathon on Sunday.
Lisa Georges, marketing and communications coordinator for Run Ottawa, said the cool weather this weekend was ideal for running. It was a wet Saturday to start the race weekend, and the sun started peaking out of the clouds early Sunday afternoon.
“We’ve had a reputation for being Hottawa, especially for this weekend, so we’re very happy to change the narrative about that,” she said.
“Our participants and the spectators are incredible. They … all came out, and they are all super positive..”
Run Ottawa also raised more than $900,000 for over 80 charities, Georges said.
