Ottawa firefighters rescued a teenaged driver from a badly damaged vehicle Tuesday evening following a two-vehicle crash at Eagleson and Fallowfield Roads.
Firefighters were called just before 8 p.m. to the scene. One vehicle was in the ditch.
The lone occupant of the vehicle in the ditch was confirmed to be trapped in the driver’s seat, with their legs pinned in the wheel well.
Rescue jacks were deployed to support the driver’s side of the vehicle and prevent further movement into the ditch.
While the extrication was underway, firefighters assessed and treated the driver’s injuries, provided heat packs and a blanket.
Extrication teams removed a vehicle door, the hood, and a structural post on the passenger side. The dashboard was lifted to allow crews to free the driver’s legs.
The passenger was freed at 8:26 p.m.
Ottawa paramedics say she was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
A man from the second vehicle was treated at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
