Thanksgiving in Ottawa: What’s open and closed this weekend

Here’s whats Open and Closed for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Shopping malls

Rideau Centre is open at reduced hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as are the Tanger Outlets, Galeries du Hull and Promenades Gatineau.

Many, but not all, pharmacies (such as Shoppers Drugs and Rexall stores) are open Monday. It’s best to check ahead.

Beer Stores and most LCBOs are closed in Ottawa.

Most SAQ outlets in Quebec are open.

In addition, several brew pubs are open on Thanksgiving and several offer offsite sales.

Many shops and restaurants in the ByWard Market are open and stores in the Glebe are permitted to open on holidays.

Banks are closed Monday, and there’s no post office service.

City services

The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Please visit ottawa.ca/311 for more information.

Ottawa’s client services and provincial offences counters and phone lines will be closed. Counters are located at Ottawa City Hall, Ben Franklin Place, and Orléans.

The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Ave. will be closed.

The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed.

City archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed from Saturday through Monday.

Other city galleries (Barbara Ann Scott, Karsh-Masson, and City Hall Art) will be closed on Monday.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Monday. Pickup will be return Tuesday. Collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All city parking regulations will apply.

Transit services

OC Transpo will run on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day.

O-Train Line 1 will run from 8 a.m. to 11 pm. Line 2 bus service will run from 7:15 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

OC Transpo lost and found will be closed.

On Thanksgiving, OC Transpo will be offering the 2-for-1 DayPass, where two customers, 13 years of age or older, can ride all day for $11.75. Purchase the 2-for-1 DayPass at any ticket machine or from your bus operator. Kids 12 and under can ride for free every day on OC Transpo buses, the O-Train and Para Transpo.

Para Transpo regular bookings or recurring trips for Monday are automatically cancelled. Customers can book trips for Thanksgiving starting Oct. 7 by calling 613-560-5000 or using the My Para Transpo.

Para Transpo customers can also text 57272 to connect with customer service from 6 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. for cancellations or information. Standard rates apply.

The reservation line will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The trip cancellation line will be open from 6 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The taxi coupon line will remain open.

Recreation and cultural services

Many community centres and recreation facilities will be closed, some throughout the weekend and most on Monday. A limited number of pools, arenas, recreation and fitness complexes are open and/or operate on a modified schedule. Please check the city’s website for details.

Arts Court, City-operated museums, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, and Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed on Monday. Nepean Creative Arts Centre and Nepean Visual Arts Centre will be closed through the weekend.

Ottawa Public Health

The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Monday.

Employment and Social Services

All four employment and social services offices will be closed Monday as will municipal child care centres.

Ottawa Public Library

All branches of Ottawa Public Library (including Bookmobile, Homebound services and InfoService) will be closed on Thanksgiving. Digital content, services, and program listings are available through the Ottawa Public Library website. Virtual programs are available on OPL’s YouTube channel.
