The 82nd annual Golden Globes kicked off this year’s awards season last night in Los Angeles. Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the ceremony, which celebrates excellence in film and television, making history as the first woman to host the event solo.
Set against lush, rose-covered backdrops, celebrities posed in opera-length gloves (Pamela Anderson, Ariana Grande and Kerry Washington), chokers and collar necklaces (Kate Hudson, Ariana Debose and Anna Sawai) and statement brooches (Adrien Brody, Colman Domingo and Richard Gadd).
The Golden Globes are known for their star-studded glamour, and last evening’s arrivals didn’t disappoint — even if the styles leaned more toward classic elegance than bold, fashion-forward statements.
Here are 15 of the evening’s standout red carpet ensembles.
Zendaya
The Golden Globes nominee stunned in Bulgari jewelry and a custom copper strapless gown by Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière. She also wore a ring on her left hand that had online commentators speculating about a potential engagement to her boyfriend, Tom Holland.
Keri Russell
“It has pockets, which is the best,” Russell said during the Variety and Entertainment Tonight red carpet pre-show, referring to her eye-catching outfit. She wore a belted, bubble-tailored wool blazer dress by French designer Stephane Rolland, paired with Aquazzura pumps and stud earrings from the jewelry brand Lagos.
Tilda Swinton
The Room Next Door star stood out on the red carpet in an elegant Chanel top and skirt, complemented by a striking Barbie-pink lip. Sometimes, less is more.
Zoe Saldaña
Saldaña, who won a Golden Globe for her role in Emilia Pérez, was styled by Petra Flannery in glittering Cartier jewelry and a Saint Laurent cape and gown. The dramatic, chocolate brown cape coat, doubling as a train on the red carpet, made the glittering strapless sequined dress stand out even more.
Emma Stone
Stone, also styled by Flannery, wore a minimalist custom Louis Vuitton strapless dress. But it was her chic new pixie cut — reportedly for an upcoming role — that really took the spotlight.
Anya Taylor-Joy
Presenter Anya Taylor-Joy was pretty in (icy) pink in a Dior slip dress paired with a fringed shawl. She completed the look with a stunning Tiffany & Co. necklace featuring over 60 carats each of opals and diamonds set in platinum and gold.
Cynthia Erivo
Nominated for her work in Wicked, Erivo wore a sculptural, lacy custom Louis Vuitton gown that perfectly showed off her heart-shaped tattoos. Her long, bejeweled nails were also a highlight — her Los Angeles-based nail technician has shared the intricate details of the design online online.
Alexandra Daddario
The Mayfair Witches star demonstrated the impact of a bold red lip last night on the red carpet. Styled by Emma Jade Morrison, she wore glamorous black-and-white Vivienne Westwood Couture featuring an asymmetrical neckline trimmed with ostrich feathers.
Demi Moore
Moore, who won her first Golden Globe last night for The Substance, was styled by Canadian Brad Goreski in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé metallic dress with a trumpet skirt. The champagne-colored silk dress was embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Nicole Kidman
Kidman, nominated for her role in Babygirl, looked particularly statuesque in a backless, draped silver Balenciaga gown paired with a vintage watch. What made her really stand out, though, was the voluminous high ponytail her hairstylist described as a “Babygirl bouffant.”
Selena Gomez
She didn’t walk the formal “step and repeat” for photographers, but double nominee Gomez epitomized retro glamour in a blue satin Prada dress with an apron skirt and a beautiful bob by hairstylist Renato Campora. Like several other stars on the red carpet yesterday, Gomez opted for a short necklace — hers was a Tiffany & Co. piece with an 18-carat emerald-cut diamond pendant.
Kenny Edmonds
Singer-songwriter and music producer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, was one of the most stylish men on the Golden Globes carpet, wearing a Balmain suit with “je t’aime” embellished on the lapel, styled with black sunglasses and heeled leather boots.
Melissa McCarthy
McCarthy, who presented at last night’s show, wore a vibrant pink custom outfit by American fashion designer Christian Siriano. The V-neck jumpsuit was charming, but it was the oversized, ruffled cape that truly sparked joy.
Cate Blanchett
Blanchett and her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, don’t mind repeating looks. The Disclaimer star opted to re-wear a golden Louis Vuitton gown by Nicolas Ghesquière that she’d previously worn at Cannes earlier this year, adding a few embellishments for this event.
Tyler James Williams
The Abbot Elementary actor was handsome (and shirtless!) a fitted Dolce & Gabbana grey suit with extended shoulders and in Anita Ko jewelry. It’s not a look that many men can pull off, and maybe that’s the point.
