The past year in music was all about the women — and the 2025 Grammys are proof. There were the gilded gramophone regulars (Taylor, Billie) and a handful of hit-making newcomers like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Charli XCX, who scooped up top noms for their ear-wormy singles (seriously, what would 2024 have been without “Espresso,” “Good Luck, Babe!” and “360”?) And in a league of her own, Beyoncé rang up 11 nods with the game-changing country album, “Cowboy Carter,” catapulting herself to the most nominated musical artist of all time.
The night’s style situation was just as diverse. There were not-so-basic black dresses, all-out adornment (sparkles, cut-outs and headpieces, oh my!) plus an unexpected (or maybe not) completely sheer slip dress that bared all on Bianca Censori, wife of Ye (formerly Kanye West).
Here are our top looks of the 2025 Grammys.
Sabrina Carpenter
Up for six awards this evening, the “Short n’ Sweet” star served yet another perfectly executed Old Hollywood look, this time in J.W. Anderson. It had all the typical Carpenter trappings: a pastel hue (check!), feathery adornment (double check!) and a cheeky sartorial wink — but you had to look for it. From behind, a diamond lariat dangled over the dress’s ultra-low back. That’s that me, indeed.
Charli XCX
We won’t soon forget brat summer, or this big-swing look completely pulled off by the eight-time Grammy-nominated singer tonight. A Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown based on one that walked the runway just a few days ago, this shipwrecked look is as extra as Charli is: two corsets, 230 metres of hand-shredded chiffon and about 30 grommets to do it all up.
Taylor Swift
Redefining the scale of a stadium tour, boosting local economies, dropping a fresh Grammy-nominated album in the middle of it all — is there anything Taylor Swift can’t do? Tonight, she proves her fashion proficiency in custom Vivienne Westwood — a one-shouldered, Chiefs-red mini that’s as sparkly as her 2024 was.
Billie Eilish
While everyone else is vying for best dressed in sequins and tulle, the “Hit Me Hard and Soft” singer does her own singular sartorial thing. (But isn’t that the Eilish story in a nutshell?) Looking ahead to seven noms this evening, her head-to-toe Prada look — a black collared jacket, contrasting navy trouser and sweet sailor hat — was polished off by another Eilish staple, teensy sunnies, this time by Chrome Hearts.
Chappell Roan
A simple, sparkly dress just isn’t Chappell Roan’s style. To (hopefully) pick up her first Grammy and the coveted Best New Artist Award, the Queen of Camp — and singular Midwest Princess — opted for a Degas-printed archival gown from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2003 Couture collection. Fingerless opera gloves, a fringy headpiece and lace-up boots met the more-is-more moment.
Olivia Rodrigo
She’s only up for one nom tonight, but Olivia Rodrigo showed up in her best winner’s look — and boy, did it deliver. The plunging Versace dress complete with dramatic cutouts was scooped from the SS ’95 Versace collection, making the garment *much* older than the “Vampire” star, in case you wanted to feel old.
Doechii
Clad in a Thom Browne suit dress with exaggerated hips, there’s no denying that Doechii is ready to step into her moment. She’s got stiff competition in the Best New Artist category, but with this fashion-y choice, the Alligator Bites Never Heal rapper is already a winner in our books.
Gracie Abrams
In a night that is arguably more important than one’s nuptials, the “I Love You, I’m Sorry” star certainly looked the part in an ivory Chanel gown, veil-like hood and the house’s signature camellia front and centre. Will tonight’s show be her big day? She’s up for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Award alongside Taylor Swift, so our bet’s on yes.
Lady Gaga
It’s no meat dress, but Gaga’s all-leather Vivienne Westwood gown definitely gave us something to talk about. The corseted, draped bodice and gothic sleeves were only bested by the massive tourmaline pendant by Tiffany & Co. dangling from her neck. Apparently she’s the only one to ever wear this archival piece from the 1930s on the red carpet and honestly, we expect nothing less OTT from her.
Troye Sivan
While most dudes on the Grammys red carpet either go the yawn-worthy route or have us asking “what exactly is he wearing?”, we’ve got to give it to Troye Sivan who found the perfect happy medium in custom Prada. Sheer, romantic layers of lavender, violet and mauve were a decided departure from what we saw on his co-headlined Sweat Tour (think chaps, mesh and skimpy everything), and we loved it.
