A three-year-old child drowned late Thursday afternoon during a family outing at Sandbanks Provincial Park on Lake Ontario, say OPP.
The child went missing while playing with family members in a shallow area of water in the park, just south of Belleville on Lake Ontario.
The Prince Edward County OPP detachment was dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. The county fire and rescue department and park wardens also responded, and members of the public assisted, said police.
The child was located and recovered by bystanders before the arrival of emergency services and was transported to hospital by paramedics. Despite resuscitation efforts, the child was pronounced dead, said OPP.
