Toronto songwriter Scott Zhang emerged as an early winner at the Grammy Awards as part of the team behind SZA’s “Saturn.”
The track picked up best R&B song at a pre-broadcast ceremony in Los Angeles where most of the music trophies are handed out.
Zhang accepted the award alongside several of his collaborators by thanking his parents and noting that he just moved to the city a day earlier.
Other Canadians are vying for gold this year for their work on albums from Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter.
The pre-broadcast ceremony is streaming live on the Grammys website and YouTube.
The 67th Grammy Awards show airs on Citytv and CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
