A 23-year-old man from Mississauga is facing criminal charges after the Ontario Provincial Police arrested him for riding on top of a moving Via Rail train in Eastern Ontario.

The OPP said the incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 13, when officers from the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment were called to a train that was stopped on the tracks between Dornie Road and County Road 30 in North Glengarry Township.

An OPP media release said the man was charged with mischief and “enter on land on which a work line is situated,” which is an offence under the Railway Safety Act.

The suspect remained in custody Thursday and was scheduled to appear in court in Cornwall.

North Glengarry Township is about 100 kilometres east of Ottawa.
