Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division saw a mass exodus of more than 100 attorneys who up and resigned from the department due to its focus on white grievance and steering away from (or outright gutting) cases involving civil rights protections for Black people, people of color and other marginalized groups under the administration of President Donald Trump. Well, the department is currently solidifying its role as a reverse-racism watchdog by launching an investigation into Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s hiring practices, which, apparently, was brought on after the mayor publicly spoke on the diversity of his administration — and we all know diversity is a cardinal sin in the Church of Making White Nationalism Great Again.
On Monday, the DOJ sent a letter to Johnson’s office informing him of the investigation to determine whether he has violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which the Trump administration has largely been manipulating to fight fictional anti-white discrimination since the very start of the president’s second term.
“In your remarks made yesterday at the Apostolic Church of God in Woodlawn, you highlight the number of Black officials in [your] administration,” the letter reads. “You then went on to list each of these individuals, emphasizing their race.”
“If these kind of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions,” the letter continued.
Actually, only one question is being begged here: Why can’t white people ever just mind their business?
It appears that, essentially, a Black mayor boasted to a Black congregation at a Black church about all the Black people who have earned positions in his administration — because boasting about Black achievement is simply a thing we do — and a bunch of white people in the most underqualified White House in modern history decided it must mean non-Black people were discriminated against.
“It is the most diverse administration in the history of Chicago,” Johnson said during what was actually a nearly hour-long interview at the church with Bishop Byron Brazier on Sunday.
Mind you, according to Axios, Brandon Johnson’s office defended its hiring practices by citing 2025 data that indicates the racial makeup of his office isn’t far off from the racial makeup of the city of Chicago. The data reportedly showed that the mayor’s staff is 34% Black, 30% white, 24% Latino and 7% Asian. Brandon Johnson’s office said in a statement Monday that the mayor “is proud to have the most diverse administration in the history of our city….[reflecting] the diversity and values of Chicago.”
The Trump administration has made it its mission to throw its weight around, bullying every state, city, or federal institution it thinks it has even caught a whiff of DEI from. In fact, Trump’s factless anti-DEI propaganda has gotten so out of control that the DOJ recently ended a settlement agreement regarding wastewater issues in a mostly Black rural Alabama county, citing the White House’s anti-DEI directive, all because environmental racism was addressed during the case. As for Chicago, last month, Trump’s Department of Education launched an investigation into Chicago Public Schools over a “Black Students Success Plan” meant to help students in underserved and under-resourced communities (read: Black school districts) maximize their potential.
So, basically, any attempt to counter America’s long, overwhelming history of systemic racism and disenfranchisement of Black people will always be met with baseless, self-serving allegations of anti-white discrimination by an administration that has dedicated itself to moving the nation backward.
Sad.
