Ottawa paramedics say two people were slightly injured in a three-vehicle crash that included a police vehicle at the intersection of Clyde and Merivale avenues early Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics said the two injured people were assessed, but their injuries did not require hospital attention.

Traffic was disrupted for several hours around the scene.

There were few other details available by late afternoon.

An unconfirmed report on social media claimed a police officer had been chasing a suspect at the time of the incident.

“It was a wild series of events from a foot chase, to the cop briefly catching the suspect, to the suspect’s dog attacking the cop which allowed the suspect to get away, to hearing the bang of the accident,” according to one social media report.

One comment speculated: “I thought it might have been a deliberate ramming to apprehend a suspect car.”

“It was honestly almost like a movie scene,” said another witness.

There was no mention on social media on any involvement by the Special Investigations Unit. The SIU is a provincial civilian oversight agency that investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm at a person or an allegation of sexual assault.
