Two women from Val-des-Monts killed in Highway 17 crash near Renfrew

The Renfrew detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was investigating a two-vehicle collision that killed two women from Val-des-Monts, Que., on Tuesday afternoon.

A media release on Wednesday said the 54- and 78-year-old victims had been in a car that collided with a pickup truck on Highway 17 in Renfrew at around 12 noon on Sept. 30. They were transported to hospital, but were pronounced dead.

There were no injuries for the driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, the OPP reported.

The collision and subsequent investigation led to a temporary closure of Highway 17 in both directions from Chenaux Road to Bruce Street in Renfrew.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam video from the area at the time of the fatal collision was asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

Renfrew is about 90 kilometres west of Ottawa and about 120 kilometres southwest of Val-des-Monts.
