“Prime Minister of Ontario” is trending on social media after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent referred to Ontario Premier Doug Ford by the incorrect title.
On a segment of Fox News Sunday, a political issues program, anchor Shannon Bream was discussing Canada-U.S. trade negotiations when the Treasury Secretary made a critical mistake when referring to Doug Ford.
“This Prime Minister of Ontario, who I imagine is smarting from the Blue Jays loss last night, spent $75 million trying to broadcast across the U.S. border.”
This follows an antitariff TV ad campaign from the Ontario government that ran in American markets.
After expressing frustration with the campaign, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened an additional 10 per cent tariff on Canadian goods.
Although trade talks have not resumed after the campaign, the Canadian government says they are ready to resume negotiations.
