Weather looking good for Family Day: What’s open, closed

Not to jinx anything, but the weather for the Monday’s Family Day holiday is looking fairly positive, especially considering what the capital region’s already struggled through this winter.

Ok, Environment Canada’s predicting breezy and chilly conditions Sunday, with  wind chill “feels like” conditions of -20 early in the day, and about -9 in the afternoon.

Sunday night’s expected to offer a 60-per-cent chance of flurries and a low of about -8 C.

But Family Day Monday’s looking pretty warm, with a forecast high of 5 C and a 30-per-cent chance of rain showers or flurries.

Monday night looks like a 40-per-cent chance of showers or flurries, with a low of 2 C.

Back-to-work Tuesday looks like mixed skies with a high of 3 C.

Here’s a list of what’s open and closed for Family Day. (Reminder, Family Day is not a federal stat holiday, nor is it officially celebrated in Quebec)

City Hall/Municipal

City Hall and client service centres at Ben Franklin Place and 255 Centrum Blvd. in Orléans will be closed

Also closed Monday

:

Provincial Offences Court, 100 Constellation Dr.; Business Licensing Centre, 735 Industrial Ave.; city Spay and Neuter Clinic, 26 Concourse Gate; City of Ottawa Archives, James Bartleman Centre.

Waste collection, recycling

No curbside collection. Pickup delayed by one day all week.

Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular day.

Trail Road waste facility open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

General services closed Monday

City of Ottawa child care centres;

Public Library branches;

Community centres, pools and recreation facilities closed or altered hours. Check city website facility pages;

Galleries closed Monday: Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, the Karsh Masson Gallery. City Hall Art Gallery, Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed

The Ottawa Public Health Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed

Ottawa Public Health dental clinics will be closed

The Parenting-in-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Monday

OC Transpo

Buses and O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Monday.

The Winterlude Sno-Bus will run for free between Winterlude sites in Ottawa and Gatineau on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Rural Shopper Route 301 will not run on Monday

Para Transpo regular bookings and recurring trips for Monday are automatically cancelled.

Customers can book family trips for Family Day by calling 613-560-5000 or using My Para Transpo.

Shopping, general

Malls

Rideau Centre will be open on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tanger Outlets will also be open Family Day, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Individual merchants at both malls may have different hours.

Bayshore, Billings Bridge, Carlingwood, Place d’Orléans and St. Laurent will be closed.

Groceries, LCBO, Beer store

The following grocery stores will be open on Family Day

Farm Boy Rideau: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Loblaws (Isabella Street): Open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.;

Loblaws (Rideau Street): Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Metro (Glebe): Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Metro (Rideau Street): Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Whole Foods Lansdowne: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All LCBO outlets and Beer Store locations will be closed.

Select Wine Rack locations will be open on Family Day. Check individual stores for hours.

Museums, etc.

Open Monday. Check ahead for times:

Canadian Museum of Nature, Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Canada Science and Technology Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum.,

Canadian War Museum, Museum of History, National Gallery of Canada.

Closed Monday

Ottawa Art Gallery, Bytown Museum, The Diefenbunker.

Other

ServiceOntario offices in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario will be closed on Family Day.

Banks will be closed on Family Day.

Service Canada locations, passport offices will be open Family Day.

Canada Post offices will be open Monday and there will be mail delivery. Canada Post offices will also be open.
