What’s open and closed in Ottawa on Canada Day

falls on a Tuesday this year, and that can always make figuring out where you can go a bit tricky, especially in the

big crowds

But don’t worry, we’ve

got you covered

. Here’s what’s open and closed across the city, and how you can get around on public transit.

OC Transpo

OC Transpo will have no-charge service all Canada Day on all O-Train lines, buses and Para Transpo, and will have additional service running through the day and into the evening, it said in a memo to council.

Bus service and O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will operate on a special Canada Day schedule, the memo stated. Line 1 will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., with enhanced frequency in the evening.

Lines 2 and 4 service will operate from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Additional buses will supplement service levels where needed, it said.

Para Transpo will provide direct service to a designated drop-off and pickup location on Vimy Place across from the War Museum’s group entrance. Para Transpo service will run until 3 a.m.

All O-Train stations will be open on Canada Day. Pimisi Station on O-Train Line 1 is the closest station to the main event site at LeBreton Flats.

Shopping malls and grocery stores

The downtown Rideau Centre will be open for Canada from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. But other malls in the city, including Bayshore, Place d’Orléans, and St. Laurent, will all be closed.

Most grocery stores will be closed for the holiday, with a few exceptions:

• Loblaws at 363 Rideau St., open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m

• Loblaws at 64 Isabella St., open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Farm Boy at the Rideau Centre, open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Whole Foods at Lansdowne Park, open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most retail stores will also be closed, so it’s best to call ahead to be sure.

Alcohol

All LCBO stores in the city will be closed for Canada Day.

A selection of Beer Stores will be open across the city on Canada Day:

• 1860 Bank St. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• 1984 Baseline Rd. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• 548 Montreal Rd. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• 515 Somerset St. W. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• 3500 Fallowfield Rd. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• 499 Terry Fox Dr. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Waste collection

• The city won’t be collecting green bins, recycling, garbage or bulky items on Canada Day. Pick up will be pushed back by one day for the rest of the week.

• Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected as normal. That said, multi-residential buildings will have their recycling containers, bulky items and green bins collection delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

• The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open on Canada Day from 9 am to 5 p.m.

City services

• The city’s 3-1-1 line will be open for urgent matters only.

• ServiceOttawa’s client services and provincial offences counters and phone lines will be closed at all of the city’s locations.

• The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Ave. will be closed.

• The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic will be closed.

• The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed from Saturday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 1.

• The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, the Karsh-Masson Gallery, and the City Hall Art Gallery will be closed on July 1.

• All four Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on July 1.

• All municipal child care centres

 

will be closed on July 1.

Ottawa Public Health

• The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 pm to 11:30 pm.

• Vaccination clinic hours depends from location. You can check the

city’s website

for availability.

• The Sexual Health Clinic and its satellite clinics will be closed.

• City-run dental clinics will be closed.

•The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Canada Day.

• The city’s immunization program telephone line will be closed.

Library services

All branches of Ottawa Public Library — which includes the Bookmobile, Homebound services and InfoService — will be closed on Tuesday for Canada Day. Libraries will be open for their regular hours on Wednesday, July 2.

Museums

Most of the national museums in the city will be open for Canada Day, many with free or reduce admission.

• The National Gallery of Canada will be free to visit from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Canadian Museum of History will be free to visit from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• The Canada Science and Technology Museum will be free on Canada Day and open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Canada Aviation and Space Museum has free admission on July 1 and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is free to visit and open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• The Canadian Museum of Nature is open July 1 with free admission from 9:30 a.m to 5 p.m.

• The Canadian War Museum has free admission and is open July 1 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• The Diefenbunker Cold War Museum has 50 per cent off admission and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• The Bank of Canada Museum is always free and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Watson’s Mill and Dickinson House is also always free and will be open Canada Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
