Where you can use the Canada Strong Pass in Ottawa-Gatineau during the holidays

Many residents of the National Capital Region will again be able to explore the area’s national museums and attractions at discounted rates as the federal government brings back the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays.

The program started Friday, Dec. 12, and runs until Jan. 15, offering free admission at participating locations for children 17 and under and half-price off for young adults ages 18 to 24.

The Canada Strong Pass does not require registration, and there is no physical card. Visitors can simply arrive at participating museums or Parks Canada sites, or book Via Rail travel online to get their discounts.

National Museums and Galleries

Canadian Museum of Nature

The snowy weather outside may lead you to check out the Museum of Nature’s “Butterflies in Flight” exhibition until Jan. 18. The museum also has several impressive galleries, including a water gallery and a Pacific Discovery Tank.

Canadian Museum of History

The Museum of History in Gatineau has an exhibit titled “Retro-Popular Music in Canada from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s” that also runs until Jan. 18. It also has another exhibit called “River of Dreams — Impressionism on the St. Lawrence” that runs through the summer of 2026.

Canada Science and Technology Museum

The Canada Science and Technology Museum promises “hands on holiday fun with immersive light displays, creative activities and a massive miniature railroad.” It is home to more than 150,000 objects.

Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is celebrating the festive season by offering holiday sweets, arts and crafts and games for all ages. There’s also a demonstration kitchen where people can watch recipes come together right in front of them.

Canada Aviation and Space Museum

The Canada Aviation and Space Museum is offering “Rocket Adventures” exhibit until Monday, Dec. 15, where kids can blast off aboard a pretend rocket ship. The museum is also promising Planetarium shows and Aurora-themed crafts.

National Gallery of Canada

The National Gallery is hosting the exhibit called “Camera and the City” until March 15, showcasing art from photographers who have captured “the spirit of city streets.” If you’re love chilly weather, “Winter Count: Embracing the Cold” also runs until March 22.

Parks Canada sites

Parks Canada-administered sites will be free for all visitors during the holiday pass period. There is also a 25-per-cent discount on fees for winter campers.

Via Rail

VIA Rail’s participation in the holiday-season Strong Pass program includes free travel for children under 17 when each is accompanied by an adult, and 25 per cent off fares for young adults ages 18 to 24.
